We are supporting young researchers

The academic support and training of school pupils, students, doctoral candidates, trainees and post-docs is very important to the DBM. Our academic staff supervise internships, traineeships and university-based theses. We offer outstanding training and encourage young scholars to boost their careers by networking, through collaborations with external experts and institutions.

Research traineeship

The DBM offers one position for research trainees each year. The training follows the guidelines of the Deutscher Museumsbund (German Museums Association).

Supervision of university theses

The DBM has close links with various universities, especially the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB). The scholars in the various departments of the DBM supervise theses for all academic degrees. Training of doctoral candidates takes place both in structured programmes (since 2010 the DBM has supported the Graduiertenschule RITaK (Graduate School on Raw Materials, Innovation and Technology of Ancient Cultures), in collaboration with the RUB), and in a free form by way of doctoral scholarships. In addition to this, the DBM provides two in-house positions for doctoral candidates with funds from central and regional government. Positions for post-docs are mainly available in the context of projects.
