Special exhibitions

Alongside our permanent exhibition with its four tours, the visitor's mine and the headframe tour, we also offer our visitors regularly changing special exhibitions. The subjects covered by these exhibitions range from mining archaeology and mining history, to the social debate surrounding the extraction, processing and use of geo-resources.

Working closely with our workshops and the curators, this is the way in which we tell the public about the results obtained from the scientific projects conducted by this Leibniz Research Museum for Geo-resources. It is through these temporary exhibitions that we willingly invite various worlds of mining into our institution. Examples include special exhibitions featuring Kazakhstan and Chile, which demonstrated the country and the culture, together with the mining histories typical there.

Apart from relating the results of our research departments to others, we also present exhibitions from partner museums. DBM+, our special exhibition building, is a space dedicated to such projects. Covering an area of 861 m², here is where we present our regularly changing exhibitions. It's distinctive architecture has seen our annex receive a range of awards: 2010: “Guter Bau” awarded by Bund Deutscher Architekten ( Association of German Architects , or BDA) Bochum, Hattingen, Witten district and 1st prize in the Eccola Award for the façade; 2011: "Guter Bau” from the BDA (at state level), NRW, 2013: Nominated for the “große Nike”.
